Plants of companies such as Weichai and Yuchai supply engines not only to the domestic market, but also abroad. Chinese motor-building builders have far advanced in the creation of engines working on natural gas.

But, probably, a few other aspect of Russian-Chinese cooperation is interesting. Historically, there were two Russian automobiles — gas and UAZ — this is an invalid Russian manufacturers of buses of particularly small class and commercial vehicles with a complete weight of up to 3.5 tons. Cooperative ties and logistics, built in the USSR, in a single national economic complex, were completely destroyed. As a result, the Savolzhsky Motor Plant, which is sixty kilometers from Nizhny Novgorod, works on the conveyor of the Ulyanovsky Automobile Plan.
And towards the Motors of the ZMZ from Ulyanovsk, with Ugz (Ulyanovsk Motor Plant), the gasoline engines are carrying on the Gorky Automobile Plant. Here are such new realities of the Russian car industry.
When the Gorky Automobile Plant in the 90s of the last century began to produce a commercial car Gazelle, gas designers were given a task to find a suitable diesel. And such a power unit for Gazelles found in Austria. The fact is that the local large manufacturer of engines and SteeR trucks (Steyr) at the very beginning of the 90s passed under the control of German MAN. And accordingly, with such a merger, part of the Austrian developments turned out to be unnecessary, this was used by both Chinese automakers and gas. About Chinese require a separate conversation, as they raised their engineering on Austrian technologies, but at the Gorky Auto Plant, the licensed Austrian Steyr M1 was renamed GAZ-560. Diesel had a volume of 2.1 liters, two valves per cylinder, drive M RM — toothed belt, electronically controlled pump.
But «Austrian» turned out to be difficult, expensive in production and therefore a rare engine and did not receive widespread recognition in the environment of domestic commercial carriers. Need an acceptable unit. So it could be with a certain refinement of the Diesel of the Savolzhsky Motor Plant, ZMZ-514, 2.24 liters volume. But with the existing rigid competition between the Gas and Sollers group, there could be no speech on cooperation.
Group specialists have found such a diesel in China. And for more than 10 years, the Cummins ISF 2.8 engines are being delivered to the gas conveyor from Beijing. With him Gazelle became a massive diesel truck. And it all started in the fall of 2010. Then the Russian market was displayed for the Gazelle business. And the Nizhny Novgorod half-timer began to install diesel engines ISF 2.8 with a capacity of 120 hp with 3200 rpm, with a moment of 270 N.M. In parallel, the gasoline versions with Ulyanov Motors UMP-4216 were released. On Gazelles, there are practically minimal from the CUMMINS ISF 2.8 setting of power (there are still options 131, 150 and 163 hp), later a 120-strong diesel started to install on the chassis and onboard Gazelle NEXT, and a diesel engine was set to a wholesaler 150 hp Power, 330 N.M. It can also be seen on the most «heavy» «gazelle» with a total of 4.6 tons.
A little more than 10 years are supplied to Russia Cummins ISF 2.8, more than 200 thousand diesel «Gazelles» of various models and modifications has already been sold. Depending on the demand and situation in the market, they produce from 25 to 30 thousand Nizhny Novgorod LCV with diesel engines in Cummins. That is, 30-50% of the annual release is diesel cars. But this volume of production of motors does not allow to organize the release of these engines in the Russian Federation — the domestic market is too small.
It should be noted that Cummins ISF 2.8 is not quite Chinese. This motor is released in China, at the Beijing Foton Cummins Engine Company Limited (BFCEC) plant. This is a joint venture of Chinese Foton and American Cummins. Which is located in Beijing. Project capacity of 400 thousand engines per year, of which 250 thousand — ISF 2.8 and 150 thousand — ISF 3.8. In addition to Chinese trucks and LCV brands Foton, Jac and Sinotruck brands, engines are delivered to Brazil.
